have all the answers.

But because for the first time in a while, I can see the horizon again.

The past few weeks have taken me deep into some of the hardest chapters of this book. Not just difficult chapters to write, but difficult chapters to revisit.

Healing.

Boundaries.

Forgiveness.

Learning to trust my own voice.

The words themselves weren’t the hard part.

The hard part was sitting with the memories, the realizations, the grief, and the truths that surfaced while editing them.

Some days I opened my laptop intending to revise a chapter and instead found myself revisiting parts of my life I thought I had already made peace with.

There were tears.

More tissues than I’d like to admit.

Moments where I needed to walk away, breathe, and come back later.

Moments where I realized that healing isn’t something we complete and check off a list. Sometimes it reveals new layers when we’re finally ready to see them.

And yet, somewhere in all of that, something shifted.

I can feel it now.

The heaviness that accompanied Parts I and II is beginning to give way to something else.

Possibility.

Hope.

Momentum.

Part III is called Rising Into Who You’re Becoming.

And perhaps that’s why it feels different.

The earlier chapters required me to look back.

Part III asks me to look forward.

Not toward perfection.

Not toward some final version of myself.

But toward the life I am intentionally creating.

Toward the future I get to choose.

Toward the person I am still becoming.

There is something beautiful about reaching the point where your story stops being primarily about what happened to you and starts becoming about what you do with it.

That’s where I find myself today.

Standing at the turning point.

Grateful for how far this journey has carried me.

Curious about what still wants to emerge.

And more convinced than ever that the silver lining was never the absence of hardship.

It was who we become because we were willing to move through it.

Tomorrow, we begin Part III.

And for the first time in a while, it feels less like excavation and more like construction.

Less like looking back.

More like rising.

— Sandra
<p class="button-wrapper" it, I knew it would be an emotional chapter. What I didn’t expect was how much it would continue asking of me every time I returned to it.

Each revision seemed to uncover another layer.

Another realization.

Another memory.

Another piece of healing that wasn’t quite finished yet.

I think that’s what surprised me most.

I’ve spent years doing the work. Reflecting. Healing. Growing. Making peace with parts of my story that once felt impossible to look at directly.

And yet, sitting here in Houston revisiting this chapter, I discovered there were still places inside me that needed a little more compassion. A little more understanding. A little more space to finally feel what I had spent years surviving.

For a long time, survival required me to keep moving.

Keep functioning.

Keep solving the next problem.

Keep carrying what needed to be carried.

There wasn’t always time to stop and fully feel the weight of it all.

But Chapter 6 wouldn’t let me rush past it.

It asked me to sit down.

To stay.

To feel.

And so I did.

At one point, I looked over at the growing pile of tissues next to my laptop and laughed.

Not because it was funny.

But because it was undeniable.

Chapter 6 was asking something of me that went far beyond editing.

There have been a lot of tissues over the past several days.

A lot of tears.

Not because the pain is still controlling my life, but because I finally allowed myself to fully acknowledge it.

To honor it.

To grieve what needed grieving.

To feel sadness for the versions of me that carried more than they should have had to carry.

To recognize how much healing has already taken place.

And to realize that healing isn’t a destination we arrive at once and for all.

Sometimes it unfolds in layers.

Sometimes we revisit old stories with new eyes.

Sometimes we discover there is still a little more freedom waiting on the other side of feeling what we’ve spent years suppressing.

One of the unexpected gifts of writing this book has been discovering that some chapters don’t just tell a story.

They continue it.

What began as an effort to put words on a page became an invitation to sit with parts of my own experience a little longer than I otherwise might have.

To feel them.

To understand them.

And perhaps, finally, to release them.

The interesting thing is that I don’t feel heavier after writing it.

I feel lighter.

Like something I had been carrying quietly for years finally found its way onto the page.

Like I can exhale, and I can breathe a little deeper.

Like a chapter that began as part of a book ended up giving something back to its author.

Today, I feel grateful.

Grateful for the healing that has already happened.

Grateful for the healing that is still happening.

And grateful for the reminder that sometimes the most important work isn’t writing the chapter.

It’s allowing the chapter to write something in us, too.

❤️

-Sandra
<p class="button-wrapper" valuable.

This morning, I found myself sitting on the balcony with a cup of coffee, listening to the rain and looking out at the trees. No chapter open. No edits on the screen. No checklist in front of me.

Just a quiet moment.

For someone who has spent much of her life moving from one responsibility to the next, I sometimes forget that rest doesn’t have to be earned.

The funny thing is that some of my clearest thinking about this book hasn’t happened while actively writing it. It’s happened in moments like this one. Looking out at the trees. Watching the rain. Letting my mind wander a little.

The book is still moving forward.

Part I is slowly but surely coming together. One chapter at a time. One revision at a time. One “yes, this finally feels right” moment at a time.

But this morning reminded me that becoming isn’t only found in the work.

Sometimes it’s found in the pause.

Sometimes it’s found in giving yourself permission to enjoy the life you’re working so hard to build.

As I sat there with my coffee, I found myself feeling grateful—not just for the progress on the manuscript, but for this season itself.

The chance to slow down.

The chance to reflect.

The chance to be fully present for the journey instead of always racing toward the destination.

And if I’m being honest, that’s a lesson I still seem to be learning over and over again.

This morning reminded me that becoming isn’t always found in the work itself.

Sometimes it’s found in the quiet moments that give us space to hear ourselves again.

I’d love to know: what has helped you slow down lately?

Share

Share Sandra Olivarez

The Beginning of Something Real

Well, I made it to Houston.

Sandra Olivarez

Well, I made it to Houston.

It was a long travel day, but one of the things I’ve learned over the years is that airports can be surprisingly good places to slow down and notice things.

During my layover at DFW, I found myself staring out the windows watching the clouds roll by. away from my normal routines and responsibilities and spend three weeks in Houston focused on finishing Becoming the Silver Lining.

Life has a way of filling every available space. Work. Family. Obligations. The endless list of things that need our attention. Somewhere along the way, I realized that if I wanted to give this book the focus it deserved, I needed to intentionally create that space instead of waiting for it to magically appear.

So that’s what I did.

For the next three weeks, my goal is simple: finish what I started.

No more squeezing writing into the margins of busy days. No more telling myself I’ll get to it when life slows down. Just dedicated time to focus on the final edits, final decisions, and final pieces of a manuscript that has been living in my heart and on my laptop for many months now.

The manuscript is written. What remains now are the final edits, final decisions, and the work of making sure it's truly ready.

Close enough that I can finally see the finish line.

That’s exciting.

A little surreal.

And if I’m being completely honest, a little emotional too.

As if arriving in Houston wasn’t enough excitement for one day, something else happened too.

With the help of my dear friend and business partner, Stacey, we officially launched the Silver Lining Circle.

Seeing the first introductions start coming through made me smile… more than once.

What started as conversations, ideas, notes, and plans is suddenly a real community filled with real people.

I’ve spent months focused on finishing the manuscript, but tonight I’m finding myself equally grateful for the people who have chosen to join the journey before the book is even finished.

That’s a gift I don’t take lightly.

So tonight I’m ending the day feeling grateful.

Grateful for safe travels, fresh food, good friends, and the opportunity to spend the next three weeks focused on something that matters deeply to me.

Grateful for new beginnings.

And grateful for each of you who decided to pull up a chair and join me here.

Tomorrow, the work continues.

But tonight feels a little bit like the beginning of something real.

❤️ Sandra

Share Sandra Olivarez
